Growing businesses need the same operational structure that keeps large, regulated organisations in control. They rarely have access to it. It is locked inside consulting firms priced for corporates, or buried in software that solves one slice of the problem. We bring that structure to growing businesses, built to fit their size and stage.
We are an operational delivery partner, not a business operations consulting firm. Accountants report the numbers. Software vendors sell tools. Consultants give advice and leave. We do the work.
Leadership
Renier Janse van Rensburg, Founder and Head of Delivery
Renier founded GrowthPains in 2006 and refocused it on SMEs in early 2026. The aim was to bring the operational structure he installed in large, complex organisations into growing businesses that need it but do not have the resources that large organisations have. He qualified as an accountant through EY in South Africa, then spent over two decades delivering operations, data, and change programmes across Blackstone, HSBC, RBS, UBS, Deutsche Bank, Capco, Deloitte, and PwC. That work spanned 105+ projects and 76+ organisations in 22 countries, and included building large delivery teams and running multi-million pound budgets. Alongside the corporate work he has launched and advised many small businesses and startups over the years. Renier leads our commercial and delivery work.

Bala Guruswamy, Director and Head of Technology & AI
Bala leads technology and AI. He has over 18 years building AI, data, and cloud platforms across Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, with certifications from Microsoft, AWS, and Databricks. His work covers predictive models, generative AI, retrieval systems, and the engineering discipline that keeps them running reliably once live. He has delivered for LexisNexis, Blackstone, HSBC, Morgan Stanley, Lloyds, Deloitte, and AIG, much of it under GDPR and ISO 27001 conditions where governance and data protection are not optional. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science. At GrowthPains he sets the technical standards, specifies the AI and automation work, and reviews what the team builds.

Senthilkumar Sathyaraj, AI & Data Engineer
Senthil has over 18 years building AI and data systems across Azure and AWS. He has delivered for Cyncly, Blackstone, S&P Global, and Worldpay, covering forecasting models, AI assistants, and the data platforms underneath them. He holds certifications across Microsoft, Databricks, AWS, and Oracle.
Arun Kumar, AI & Data Engineer
Arun has over 16 years building data platforms and machine learning systems, mostly on Microsoft Azure. His work at LexisNexis Risk Solutions covers recommendation models, automated data validation, and moving models into live use. He is a certified Azure Data Engineer.
Sakthivel Ganeshan, AI & UI Engineer
Sakthi has over 18 years across software development and AI engineering, mostly on Microsoft Azure. His recent work at S&P covers AI assistants, model insight dashboards, and the interfaces that put AI outputs in front of business users. He holds a Master of Engineering and is a certified Azure AI Engineer.
Biplav Das, AI Engineer
Biplav is a certified MLOps and DevOps engineer who keeps AI systems running in production. His work at the London Stock Exchange Group and Royal Mail covers automated deployment, model monitoring, drift detection, and safe rollback when something goes wrong. He holds Microsoft and Databricks certifications.
Bhuvana Mathivanan, AI Engineer
Bhuvana has over 14 years building data platforms and machine learning systems, mostly on Microsoft Azure. Her recent work in insurance, including Ascot and Chetwood, covers claims prediction, fraud detection, and automating document-heavy processes. She holds an MSc in Computer Science from the University of East London.
Yoga Subramanian, AI Engineer
Yoga has over 10 years building machine learning and AI systems on Microsoft Azure, more recently focused on AI assistants and multi-agent workflows. His work at the AA and Cumberland Building Society covers customer-facing AI, automation, and business applications built without heavy code.
Kiruthiga Chinnappan, AI Engineer
Kiruthiga is a Databricks and Azure certified engineer with over 16 years in data engineering and machine learning. She has delivered analytics and AI systems for large insurers and utilities, including QBE and SSE, covering model development, data governance, and moving models into live use.
Ramki Ramasamy, SupportOps Engineer
Ramki has more than a decade keeping systems, automations, and machine learning models running reliably in production, largely on AWS. He has worked with SSE, Centrica, and Alcatel-Lucent, building the pipelines and monitoring that catch problems before they reach the business. He holds a Master of Science in Computer Science.
Udhaya Sankar, SupportOps Engineer
Udhaya has over a decade building and running AI and data systems across Azure and AWS, with recent work at the London Stock Exchange Group, Shell Energy, and Transport for London. He builds retrieval-based AI assistants and the data pipelines behind them, then keeps them running once live. He holds an MBA from the University of Sheffield.
